You might think of July as barbecue season but a few years ago I deemed July to be no-meat month at Hawk Hill. I live just a few blocks from one of the best Farmer’s Markets in MO so taking a break from meat in order to motivate myself to make the most of the season’s bounty seems like a great idea. Last year during my meatless month I found myself craving meat, and allowed myself to have a bit on the weekend, but this year- with the aid of an iron supplement- I’m doing a full 30 days without meat, and so far feel great, with no cravings!
To start my meatless month I make a special trip to a natural market about an hour away, where I picked up TVP (textured vegetable protein) and after reading an experimenting a bit, I came up with this fantastic TVP “meat”ball recipe. These adapted well to Ikea-Style Meatless Sweedish Meatballs and the leftovers made an amazing Meatless Meatball Sandwich.
