How to Remove Grout Haze Quickly & Easily

Anyone doing DIY tile gets grout haze from time to time. Today I’m going to share a little secret that will easily remove the haze and make your tile projects shine like a beacon of home improvement brilliance. In this article I’ll explain what grout haze is, and show you the perfect tool to eliminate it.
Introducing: the Scrub Daddy! Now, before we dive into the details, let me tell you why I’m such a fan of this little textured sponge. First off, the Scrub Daddy is super versatile and can tackle a wide range of cleaning tasks, including that stubborn grout haze. And most importantly, the Scrub Daddy is perfectly safe to use on tile and grout. I should also say that this post isn’t sponsored in any way by Scrub Daddy Co, or whatever their corporate name is, but I love and use this product around the house.
What is grout haze?
Grout haze is that pesky, cloudy residue that can dull the sparkle of your brand-new tile work. It not only makes the tiles appear dull and drab but also feels rough or gritty to the touch. With the right tools and a bit of elbow grease, grout haze can be quickly and easily removed.
Step 1: Gather your supplies
- Scrub Daddy sponge (any color)
- Warm water
- A bucket or basin
- White vinegar
- A soft cloth or towel
Step 2: Mix your cleaning solution
In your bucket or basin, mix equal parts warm water and white vinegar. This concoction is like magic when it comes to breaking down that grout haze. The vinegar’s acidity will help dissolve the haze, and the warm water will make it more effective.
Step 3: Wet the Scrub Daddy
Start by running your Scrub Daddy under warm water. You want it to be nice and soft, but not dripping wet so give it a good squeeze. The soft texture of the Scrub Daddy is perfect for working on grout haze without scratching your beautiful tiles.
Step 4: Start scrubbing
Take your now-softened Scrub Daddy and dip it into your vinegar-water solution. Gently start scrubbing the grout lines. Use circular motions and a bit of elbow grease if necessary. The Scrub Daddy’s texture is designed to agitate and lift away the haze without damaging your tile or grout.
TIP: When scrubbing, placing your fingers into the “eyes” gives you more leverage and is more effective.
Step 5: Rinse and repeat
As you work, rinse the Scrub Daddy in the solution and squeeze it out regularly. This keeps the sponge clean and maximizes its cleaning power. Continue scrubbing until you see that grout haze disappearing before your eyes.
TIP: Keep your water warm. This may mean you need to work more quickly. Once the water cools and the sponge firms up, it’s far less effective.
Step 6: Final rinse and dry
As you work, rinse the Scrub Daddy in the solution and squeeze it out regularly. This keeps the sponge clean and maximizes its cleaning power. Continue scrubbing until you see that grout haze disappearing before your eyes.
Check out that shine! Your tiles should now be free from grout haze, and your project will shine brighter than ever before. This whole process took me one hour from start to finish.
So there you have it, a simple and effective way to banish grout haze from your tile projects using the incredible Scrub Daddy. It’s like a miracle worker right in the palm of your hand. Remember, with a little elbow grease and the right tools, you can turn your home improvement dreams into reality. Happy scrubbing!
